For some, lunchtime is just another decision you need to make in your day. Where do I go? What do I eat when I get there? Do I really want what I've got in the freezer? Well, for Periscopians, the traditional Ledge Opening means no one has to answer those tough questions. At least for one day.
The Ledge is our place in the sun. It's where we gather as coworkers and friends to share stories and food, or maybe get some work done. And every year 'round this time, we mark the opening of the Ledge with an afternoon of grillin' and chillin'.
It starts with Periscope's senior leadership slaving over our hot Char-Broil grills, cooking up delicious burgers, brats and veggies. And it ends with everyone else dropping what they're doing and rushing down for a spot in line as soon as they hear "The Ledge is now open" spoken over the intercom.
"The Ledge Opening represents more than just delicious food and good company," said Art Director Allen Bender. "It means that summer is officially started. Which is awesome, 'cause these sleeveless shirts aren't going to wear themselves."
And as if things couldn't get any better, after lunch the Ice Cream Man makes his annual pilgrimage to our parking lot to hand out tasty treats to Periscopians in need of a sugar pick-me-up.
So now that summer's officially here and our bellies are full of delicious food, we'll wait in earnest for next year's Ledge Opening and the happiness it will bring. But in the meantime, stop on by and hang out with us on the Ledge. We might even grill you something tasty.
