On a spectacular Sunday in late March, Periscope’s budding Roger Bannisters laced up their jogging shoes, threw on spandex running tights and even donned sweat-absorbent bandanas, all for a great cause – the fight against hunger.
The event was the Rock Bottom Brewery 5K for Hunger. Where 16 Periscopians, along with 119 other participants, put their 3.1-mile stamina on full display.
According to event organizer Jen Anhorn, the race was a great opportunity to help people in need, while having a great time in the process.
“It was fun to see so many Periscopians come out for a great cause,” said Anhorn, aka Coach J. “Everyone ran their hearts out. And we’re looking forward to more charity runs throughout the summer.”
According to the Department of Agriculture, 50 million people in the U.S. – one in six of the population – were unable to afford food at some point last year. Hundreds, if not thousands, of Minnesotans go to bed hungry every night. Many are children. And sadly, the numbers continue to rise.
That's why Periscope and so many others stepped up to the starting line.
The Rock Bottom Foundation, allied with The Tubman Family Alliance and Catholic Charities, supports a Spring Gathering and Easter dinner for over 350 homeless Twin Cities’ families.
So to everyone involved, great job! And we’ll see you next year.
