Periscope Rubs Elbows With Global Digital Leaders

It’s not everyday that you get to meet a major influential power. Meeting 40 of them? There’s only one word for that: “wow!"

Such was the case when Periscope’s Rachelle Westlund, a digital media specialist, attended the 2011 Digital Business Decision Makers Summit in St. Thomas (the exotic Caribbean island St. Thomas).

The event, which took place January 20 23, was hosted by Washington Post Digital and The Slate Group and brought together elite agency executives, Fortune 500 business decision makers and interactive advertising experts. Its intent: to discuss the ever-evolving world of digital trends, media and marketing.

“It was an honor for our agency to be counted among the top 40 digital groups in the world,” said Westlund. “It’s not everyday that you’re able to share ideas with thought leaders from Cisco, Microsoft, Toyota.”

Each day during the event, participants attended panel discussions and then broke into small groups to interact and debate topics ranging from adjusting to the current pace of innovation to who should be responsible for driving marketing initiatives.

And the dividends are already paying off.

“During the summit, I was able to discuss Periscope’s initiatives with several other digital agency leaders — particularly our UnitedHealthcare iPad campaign,” said Westlund. “A week and a half later, CNN pitched the app to another attendee who immediately recognized it as a Periscope execution. For our work to be talked about outside our agency’s walls feels great.”
