At Periscope, the holidays can’t be consumed solely with a single sense - be it sight, sound, smell, taste or touch. But instead each and every one is bombarded with a flurry of joyous holiday cheer.
And the senses were the main theme of two of our most treasured traditions: Periscope’s wrapping paper and the infamous holiday party.
Each year, Periscope gives employees complimentary rolls of wrapping paper to use during the holiday season. And according to Periscope designer Blair Dempster, this year’s concept would literally have a direct hit upon the senses, which are completely overloaded this time of year.
“The idea was for each sheet to represent a certain sense,” said Dempster. “For instance, one roll of wrapping paper would smell like pine needles. Another roll would have music symbols making up snowflakes and so on.”
And these same senses were totally barraged at the annual Periscope holiday party, held December 17 at the International Market Square. For instance:
SIGHT – Eyes were in total amazement witnessing people normally dressed in skull shirts and Chuck Taylors, in slacks, buttoned-shirts and black ties.
SOUND – Ears were enlightened with “so how do you know so-and-so” talk with someone’s slightly intoxicated spouse.
SMELL – A bouquet of Axe body spray blossomed throughout the halls of IMS.
TASTE - Besides the yumminess of Pabst Blue Ribbon and Jose Cuervo, chicken, salmon, potatoes and a delicious vegetable medley were also served.
TOUCH – For legal reasons, we won’t go there.
In conclusion, holiday fun was had by all. And just think, in a short 11 months or so, it’ll be time to do it all again.
