Periscope and MN Twins send baseballs across the Twin Cities

2010 is already shaping up to be a memorable year for Periscope and the Minnesota Twins. In addition to celebrating the inaugural season of Target Field, the agency and ballclub have teamed up to drop baseballs all over the Twin Cities.

Yes, baseballs.
Launched from the new park.
Sent to all corners of Twins Territory.

It’s all part of Swing For The Cities — a web-based video game that lets users step into Target Field and take part in a home run derby.

“We wanted to create something that all of Twins Territory could enjoy,” said Charlie Callahan, Periscope Executive Creative Director. “Whether you’re a fan or an actual Twins player, the game has an appeal that everyone can get behind.”

One of the game’s features that’s sure to have people talking is the “Long Ball.” Show enough skill and you can hit one of these special balls out of the park and watch it land on a Google Maps-like environment. To show a little extra swagger, players can tag the map with comments as well as share their blasts via Facebook and Twitter.

Swing For The Cities has some cool hooks for sharing and trash talking,” said Andy Rakotz, Digital Technical Director at Periscope. “But we’ve kept those where they should be, as support, and let the game stand for itself. Keeping true to that — from design to deployment — left us with something that’s amazingly simple and, above all, just fun to play.”

Be sure to stay tuned, as more exciting Swing For The Cities news is yet to come.
