Every now and again, between ad deadlines or client calls, we here at the Periscope like to engage in a little friendly competition. We’re not talking about our organized activities like the softball, soccer, hockey, bowling and triathlon teams. We’re talking about beating the daily grind with some good old-fashioned lunchtime fun.
It starts with a morning email from Associate Design Director Patrick Weld, who surveys a group of active Periscopians to determine whether the day’s sport is wiffleball, basketball, football, or hockey. Once there’s enough responses, participation is closed and the game is set.
“It’s nice to get out of the office for a bit and not only have a blast, but get some great exercise, too,” Weld says. “I love working at a place that lets you do this kind of stuff.”
But it isn’t just limited to lunchtime sports. Melanie Zaelich, Art Director and avid hula-hooper, created a hula-hooping club that holds a one-hour hoop-a-thon over lunch. Brand Advocacy Account Executive Sarah Mans organizes twice-weekly yoga sessions with a teacher from CorePower Yoga and Account Executive Robin Pfeifer and Insight Analyst Bradley Epstein have put together a running club that takes post-work runs and tackles 5k’s all over the Twin Cities.
“Periscope’s a great place to work AND a great place to play. I love that so many people here are so involved,” said Pfeifer. “If someone has a passion for an activity, there’s probably someone else here who shares that passion.”
Next time you’re at the ‘Scope, take a look around—there’s probably something fun happening that you can join up with.
